Reading is at the heart of our curriculum. We aim to nurture confident, fluent readers who develop a lifelong love of books. Children are taught through a structured approach to phonics, high-quality texts, and regular opportunities to read for pleasure and purpose. Across the school, pupils explore a rich variety of stories, non-fiction, and poetry that broaden their vocabulary, deepen understanding, and spark imagination. By building strong reading skills early, we empower children to succeed across all areas of learning.

Our writing curriculum inspires children to become confident, creative and purposeful writers. Through a rich variety of texts and real writing opportunities, pupils learn to plan, draft and edit their work, developing strong skills in vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and spelling. We encourage children to write for different audiences and purposes, helping them to express ideas clearly and with imagination. By building secure foundations and celebrating children’s voices, we enable every pupil to grow as an enthusiastic and capable writer.
Oracy
|
Intent, Implementation & Impact |
Our aim is to equip every child with the confidence and skills to speak clearly, listen carefully and communicate effectively. We believe oracy is essential for learning, relationships and future success. Through purposeful talk in lessons, structured discussion, drama, debate and presentation opportunities, we teach pupils how to express their ideas, build on the views of others and use language with accuracy and confidence. Our oracy curriculum empowers children to find their voice, participate fully in school life and become articulate, thoughtful communicators.
