Welcome to Year 4!
Welcome to our brand new school website! We have created the website to keep parents up to date with school news and notices, and to showcase some of the great things our pupils are achieving. The website is extremely easy to edit by all staff at the school, so check back soon for new updates!
We would like to share with you our plans for this half of the autumn term.
Our whole school topic is ‘Amazing People’ and we will be focusing on Mary Seacole. We will be using Mary Seacole to explore a variety of topics
Studying Mary Seacole will allow us to explore a variety of topics in history and geography, including the differences between Victorian and modern medicine, how women were treated in Victorian London, the differences between Victorian Kingston and London, and how Mary Seacole became famous.
We are starting a new book this week called ‘Fly, Eagle, Fly!’. This book was written with the intention of teaching children how amazing they all are as part of God’s creation. We will be looking at how we can use high level vocabulary to describe the book’s Ghanaian setting and characters.
Our class topic is also linked to the work we will be doing in science as we shall explore how medicine has changed throughout history thanks to the contributions of amazing people such as Mary Seacole.
Homework is handed out every Thursday. Failure to hand in the homework before the deadline means that work may sometimes not get marked. All children receive their homework together and we discuss it in detail so that everyone knows what they need to do. Each week children will receive a list of ten spellings that they must learn for their spelling test on Monday. You can help them by testing them regularly on their spellings and times tables. Children are expected to read for at least twenty minutes every night in addition to weekly homework.
Our term project is to create a booklet about a religious leader (children may choose their own religious leaders). This links in with our DT topic of creating pop-up books. The deadline for this project is Tuesday 13th October 2015.
Swimming takes place on Monday. Please remind children to bring their swimming kits to school. This swimming kit should include a towel, a swimming cap and a costume for the girls or briefs for the boys, as detailed in the letter that was sent out last week. PE takes place on Wednesday. Please ensure that children have a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and black plimsolls. Black tracksuit bottoms may also be worn and full tracksuits when doing P.E. outside.
Recorder lessons take place on Thursday and children must remember their recorders for these lessons.
