Spring Term in Year 3 2016

Welcome to Year 3!

Welcome to our brand new school website! We have created the website to keep parents up to date with school news and notices, and to showcase some of the great things our pupils are achieving. The website is extremely easy to edit by all staff at the school, so check back soon for new updates!

Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to share with you our plans for this half of the autumn term.

Our whole school topic is ‘Amazing People’ and we will be focusing on the ‘recorder’ instrument.  Our class topic is ‘Leaders Throughout Time’ as it has had a long historical and rich geographical journey.

Studying ‘Amazing People’ will transport us to our history topic of ‘Space through the Ages’ where we will study the Space Race, Apollo 11 missions and our earliest inventions that changed the world.

In English we will be learning about descriptive writing, constructing poems and instructional writing. Children will be given opportunities to read and recite their poems and perform these.  We will be exploring about alliteration and onomatopoeias and the children will able to write their own poems for homework.

We are starting a new book called ‘Leon and the Place Between’.  It’s a book about a magician who performs amazing tricks and examines the world of between. The illustrations in the book are wonderful and the children should engage with this exciting text.

Children will developing their knowledge and understanding of the number system and looking at shapes in geometry. The children will also be looking at Giuseppe in art and they will be developing their drawing skills and producing some final pieces, influenced by his work. In computing children will use different commands to form their own Islamic art as well as use their computer time to research other areas of our topic.

We will now hand out homework on Thursday and it is due back on Tuesday’s as usual.  Failure to hand in the homework before the deadline means that work may sometimes not get marked.  All children receive their homework together and we discuss it in detail so that everyone knows what they need to do. Children are expected to read for at least twenty minutes every night in addition to weekly homework.

Our term project is always given to children during the first week back so that children have plenty of time to plan, design and create their projects.  As you will have seen, our term project is ‘Leaders Through Time’.The homework will be discussed and ideas will be shared, so we are looking forward to seeing the final products. Deadline is  14th of October 2015.

PE takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please ensure that children have a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and black plimsolls. Black tracksuit bottoms may also be worn and full tracksuits when doing P.E. outside.

Recorder lessons take place on Monday and Thursday as usual, however children have been given new music to learn for upcoming performances.

If you have any questions or require further information about our autumn term, please do not hesitate to speak with us.

Kind regards,

Miss Sinclair                            Ms. Soma
