Welcome to Year 1!
My name is Miss L Méndez and I will be your child’s class teacher this year and Miss Amanda Carr will be supporting me. I look forward to working with you and have outlined below some essential information to support your child at school.
Our whole school topic for this term is Amazing People and our class topic is Little Heroes.
Homework is given out every Thursday and returned on Tuesday.
The homework that we send home supports the teaching and learning that has taken place in class and will also inform you of what the children have been doing. This term, our homework projects will be focused in Religious Leaders through Time, in Year 1 we will learn about Jesus as leader:
Here is some inspiration:
Reading books are sent out every week and is changed on a weekly basis. Reading records are also sent home to give you the opportunity to note down the reading that has taken place.
Your child is expected to read each night and your support in this area is greatly appreciated. Children have the opportunity to go to the school library every Tuesday where they can borrow books. The class will also visit the Newington Library every second week to the Newington Library to take part in a storytelling session.
Your child has PE lesson on Wednesday and Friday.
Our school P.E. uniform at St. Jude’s is a white t-shirt, black shorts and black plimsolls. Black tracksuit bottoms may also be worn and full tracksuits when doing P.E. outside.
It is extremely important that children come to school with the PE kit every Monday. We will send it back every Friday.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions. We hope that your child has an enjoyable time in Year 1.
