Year 1 and 2 Maple Class
Welcome to Year 1/2 Maple Class
My name is Ms Raimi and I will be your child’s class teacher this year with Miss Tattan supporting us. I look forward to working with you and have outlined below some essential information to support your child at school.
Homework is given out every Thursday and returned on Tuesday.
The homework supports the teaching and learning that has taken place in class and will also inform you of what your child has been doing.
Reading books are sent out at least once a week. We send out real books, chosen by your child and we expect that your child is read to, then read with and makes the effort to read independently, in the course of the week. This way, we aim to approach reading in a holistic way, promoting comprehension and enjoyment of texts, as well as the various ways that texts are decoded- phonics, sight reading and synthesis.
Reading records are also sent home to give you the opportunity to note down the reading activities that have taken place with a text.
Your child is expected to have the opportunity to do some aspect of reading, as described above, every day. Your support and commitment to this will greatly impact your child’s reading and will be greatly appreciated.
Your child has PE lessons on Thursdays and Fridays.
The P.E. uniform at St. Jude’s is a white t-shirt, black shorts and black plimsolls. Black tracksuit bottoms may also be worn and full tracksuits when doing P.E. outside.
It is extremely important that children come to school with the PE kit every Monday. We will send it back every Friday.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions.
We hope that your child has an enjoyable learning year ahead, in Maple Class.
